Spring on the Farm

Spring on the Farm  will be held at Watkins Woolen Mill State Park and State Historic Site on Saturday, April 19th, 2008 from 11 a.m. – 4 p.m.  Spring has come to the Watkins farm and join us for a day filled with fun and learning!  Witness 1870’s style sheep shearing.   Enjoy our American Livestock Breeds Conservatory display of rare and endangered livestock.  Take a stroll through our heirloom garden while 1870’s attired interpreters prepare the raised beds and plant vegetable seeds saved from our heirloom plants the year before.  Other activities will include toy making, wood stove cooking demonstration, rag doll making, and more. Fall Music Fest & Back Porch Jam

The 8th Annual Music Fest and Back Porch Jam will be held at Watkins Woolen Mill State Park and State Historic Site on Saturday, September 13th, 2008 from 12 p.m. – 5 p.m.  Bring your banjo, fiddle, guitar, harmonica, or mandolin and join the fun at the Watkins family home.  Featured songwriters and musicians will perform original songs and folk music throughout the day on the front porch of the house.  Everyone is also invited to join in on the informal jam session traditionally held on the back porch.  Come out to play or listen!  Lawn chairs and picnic lunches are allowed.  In case of rain, the event will take place in the park’s visitor center.  For further information contact the park office at (816) 580-3387.


Fall on the Farm

Fall on the Farm  will be held at Watkins Woolen Mill State Park and State Historic Site on Saturday, October 4th, 2008 from 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. Join our costumed interpreters as they demonstrate rural life of the 1870s.  Special activities include sheep shearing, corn shelling, cider pressing, wood stove cooking demonstration, seed saving, rag doll making, toy making, and much more.  Admission is free for the event and there will be an open house at the Watkins family home for the duration of the event. There will be a limited number of woolen mill tours available at a reduced fee. For further information contact the park office at (816) 580-3387.

Christmas on the Farm

Christmas on the Farm will be held at Watkins Woolen Mill State Park and State Historic Site on Saturday, December 6th, 2008 from 2 p.m. - 7 p.m.  Admission is free for the event and there will be an open house at the Watkins family home for the duration of the event.  Activities at the home will include holiday caroling, reading of family letters, free samples of traditional holiday treats, plum pudding flaming demonstrations, and an opportunity for children to visit with Father Christmas.  Activities at the visitor center will include kids crafts, live traditional holiday music, and a performance by the Lathrop Singing Mules grade school choir.
